A legal name change in California is a court process — not just a form. The court requires accuracy, proper notice, and strict compliance with procedure. Mistakes can delay your case or force you to start over.
We provide professional name change document preparation and filing support for adults and minors in Sonoma County who want the process handled correctly the first time.

Basic Name Change Service (Adult or Minor)
Our most common service is a basic adult or minor name change filed in Sonoma County. This option is designed for straightforward cases with no objections, no safety-based confidentiality issues, and no complex disputes.
Flat Fee: $500
This is a flat-rate service. No hourly billing. No surprises.
What’s Included
- Preparation of all required court forms for an adult or minor name change
- Review of your facts to confirm the case qualifies as a basic filing
- Preparation of a complete, filing-ready court packet
- Fee waiver preparation if you qualify
- Guidance through the court approval process
If you qualify for a fee waiver, we will prepare it for you and advise you accordingly. In qualifying cases, we can advance required third-party fees on your behalf with no surcharge.
Third-Party Fees (Not Included in the $500)
- Sonoma County Superior Court filing fee: approximately $435 (subject to change)
- Newspaper publication fee: varies depending on the approved newspaper
Court filing fees may be waived if you qualify. Publication fees are set by the newspaper and are not controlled by the court.

Publication Requirement
After the court approves your request, California law generally requires publication of a legal notice in an approved newspaper so that any interested party has an opportunity to object.
Once publication is completed, proof must be filed with the court before a final judgment is issued.
Some cases qualify for confidential name change status where publication is not required. Those cases are not part of the basic service and require a consultation.
Timeline
Most name change cases take approximately 90 days to 6 months from filing to final judgment. Timing depends on:
- Court calendar availability
- Whether a hearing is required
- Publication scheduling
- Any objections or delays outside our control
Consultation Required for All Other Name Change Cases
All name change matters outside the basic service require a consultation, including but not limited to:
- Confidential name changes (safety-related cases)
- Contested or objected name changes
- Family or multi-party filings
- Cases involving criminal history disclosures
We do not accept all cases. If your matter is outside our scope or requires attorney representation, we will tell you upfront. We always provide a flat-rate price before you move forward.
Important Notice
We provide legal document preparation and procedural support only. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice. Contested matters or objections may require attorney representation.
